Beinn a'Ghlo & the Blair Atholl Munros in Winter
Tuesday 9th - Thursday 11th March 2021
ABOUT THE EVENT
Beinn a'Ghlo is a huge mound boasting 3 Munros: Càrn Liath, Bràigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain and Càrn nan Gobhar.
Usually tackled from around Blair Atholl, this is a brilliant day out on a wide undulating ridge. I've done this circuit as part of a memorable 3-day wild winter camping epic, and also as a single winter walk. And I've done the route in both directions.
Heading along the Glen past the mountains gives you the chance to traverse the ridge roughly west to east so that you get the setting sun on the return which as you'll see in the pictures below, was timed perfectly!
This is a massively rewarding experience when the weather plays ball!
Carn a'Chlamain and Beinn Dearg are both remote Munros with a long walk in. Both have their own unique character and charm - the feeling of real wilderness all around you.
We'll tackle Beinn a'Ghlo, Carn a' Chlamain and Beinn Dearg over three separate days and the weather will dictate which order we do them in. There is no guarantee that we will reach summits as winter in Scotland on the mountains can be brutal with hurricane strength winds and white out blizzards. However, we will have some epic days in the wild regardless.

Beinn Dearg (1,008m / 3,307ft)
Carn a' Chlamain (963m / 3,159ft)

We'll know more about which hills and which order nearer the time.

You will need basic walking clothes (not cotton or jeans!), some extra layers, waterproofs, hat and gloves. Plus some water or a thermos of tea/coffee/hot ribena!
I'm coming from further afield, where can I stay nearby?
This is up to you depending on your budget. There is a huge range of accommodation in Fort William
What's not included?
How much is the trip and how do I book?
The trip costs £240 per person for the three days and £110 per person for just one of the days. There are discounts for bulk purchases. Again, please note that if there is a particular Munro you are interested in I cannot guarantee which of the three days we will attempt it as it is so dependent on the weather! I won't know until a day or so beforehand.
