The Cairngorms 4000s Wilderness Wildcamping Trek

Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th April 2021

ABOUT THE TRIP

This is a wilderness excursion wildcamping into the heart of the Cairngorms to take in the 5 Munros over 4000ft. There are only 4 other 4000ers in Britain, all in Scotland across in Lochaber: Ben Nevis, Carn Mor Dearg, Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag.

It is an absolutely wonderful place. I'll aim to meet everyone the evening beforehand in Aviemore to run through the plans. We'll take in the Braeriach - Devil's Point ridge with a wild camp near Corrour Bothy, then take in Ben MacDui and Cairngorm.

Munros (We may do this in reverse depending on prevailing conditions):

1. Braeriach (1,296m / 4,252ft)
2. Sgor Lochain Uaine (Angels Peak) (1,258m / 4,127ft)
3. Cairn Toul (1,291m / 4,127ft)
4. (Carn a' Mhaim - a Munro under 4,000ft) Ben Macdui (1,309m / 4,295ft)
5. Cairn Gorm (1,244m / 4,081ft)

Meeting Point:

Difficulty: There are some good tracks as well as some pathless sections with short scrambling sections. We will be carrying our camping equipment for the two days walking. This is a good one for those who have never experienced true wildcamping before. The route is roughly  39km (21 miles), ascent 2300m (7,545ft)

Cost: The trip costs £190 per person (£171 per person if booking for 2-3 people, and £161.50 per person for booking 4 or more). 16-18 year old's are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. You will need to provide your own transport, accommodation and equipment (please see the gear list for details).

Numbers: There are a maximum of 10 places and a minimum of 4 for the trip to take place.

Guided Trips - Frequently asked questions

Is this suitable for me?

You will need to be fit and have some walking experience. This is not a running event - it's walking and we will be aiming to keep a steady pace throughout the two days. The Cairngorms are huge and vast rounded lumps but nevertheless we will be carrying everything for the two days including camping gear so no bringing the kitchen sink! I will always try and accommodate everyone but if unsure please drop me an email.

What do I need to bring?

You will need walking clothes (not cotton or jeans!), some extra layers, waterproofs, hat and gloves. You'll want to bring some food/lunch which you can easily eat. Plus some water or a thermos of tea/coffee/hot ribena. You can see the recommended kit list here. You will also need equipment for camping. I'd recommend walking poles!

I'm coming from further afield, where can I stay nearby?

This is up to you depending on your budget. There is a range of campsites, hostels, B&Bs through to hotels in Aviemore but it is recommended you book in advance!

What's not included?

Accommodation (if applicable), Food, Personal Insurance, Personal equipment, Transport, specialist winter equipment (if applicable - it could be baking hot!)

How much is the trip and how do I book?

The guided walk costs £190 per person with do=iscounts for bulk booking. To book please see below. Please ensure you have read the Terms and Conditions.

What are the Terms & Conditions?

Please see the Terms and Conditions section by clicking the link. You can also see the Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.

I've got some more general questions...

Please see the General FAQ section by clicking the link here. If you've still got questions then please get in touch!

How do I get there?

If you're not driving, Aviemore is on the mainline from anywhere in the UK. Inverness has an airport but you will need a hire car to get down to Aviemore or take a taxi into Inverness and the train down. If you are willing to offer a lift please let me know. To get to the start point you can take a taxi or a local bus - but I can arrange to fetch you from your accommodation.

TO BOOK

If you want to chat to me about the event then please feel free to do so - email is a good start as I'm often out and about with limited phone reception.
If you don't like the idea of the online booking or would prefer to pay a 10% deposit for now, that's fine as I can simply raise an invoice. Please note that this has an additional £5 non-refundable administration fee.
Simply click 'Book Now' and follow the instructions. You'll get an automated confirmation reply but I'll follow that up when I get back to civilisation to say thanks and with more detail about the event.
Please ensure you've read the Terms and Conditions and you are aware of what you need to bring by downloading the gear list.
A quirk of the website hosting system means there are a range of ticket options (apologies about that). Please check the number you are booking for on the ticket options and ensure you request that number of tickets...
