The Crianlarich Munros

Tuesday 13th - Thursday 15th April 2021

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Crianlarich Munros are brilliant! Massively accessible with a range of approaches. They are also big so despite being in such an accessible location we are soon high up and away from the real world.

North from Glasgow, there is the Arrochar Alps range and then the Crianlarichs.

Typically the 7 Crianlarich hills are tackled over 3 separate big days and that's what we'll do.

The biggest day is the western trio which also has some off piste and scrambly sections.

I've done these Munros in the usual guidebook manner, and done all 7 in a massive day. They are great adventures out. Six of them form nice pairs which are logical to do together. Once up on the col between the two summits, the two tops can be ticked off easily. The outlier - Beinn Chabhair - can be combined with An Caisteal and Beinn a'Chroin. Ben More and Stob Binnein are the last two mountains over 1,100m heading south. There is nothing higher in England or Wales.

Munros:

Cruach Ardrain (1,046m / 3,432ft) and Beinn Tulaichean (946m / 3,104ft)

Beinn Chabhair (933m / 3,061ft), An Caisteal (995m / 3,264ft) and Beinn a'Chroin (940m / 3,084ft)

Ben More (1,174m / 3,852ft) and Stob Binnein (1,165m / 3,822ft)

Meeting Point:

09:00 at different spots in the area depending on which Munros we tackle (weather will dictate).

However, for a view of the area from Google Maps, please click here (This will open in a new tab)

Difficulty: There are good approach tracks but steep in places. There are small sections of ungraded scrambling as well as some off-piste sections.

Cost: The full trip costs £295 per person for all three days (with discounts for bulk booking). Under 18s are welcome so long as they are accompanied by their parent/guardian.

If you only want to come on one of the days that's fine and the trip costs £110 for the day (with discounts for bulk booking).

Please note that if there is a particular Munro you are interested in, you can specify when you book, I cannot guarantee which day we will attempt that particular hill as this may be weather dependent. There is no guarantee we will summit.

Numbers: I can take a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 2.

Guided Trips - Frequently asked questions

Is this suitable for me?

The walk will be suitable for anyone with very good hill walking experience and stamina/fitness. They are big days out above anything else! It isn't an army march but there are sections which are a bit scrambly and off piste. I will always try and accommodate everyone but if unsure please drop me an email.

What do I need to bring?

You will need basic walking clothes (not cotton or jeans!), some extra layers, waterproofs, hat and gloves. Plus some water or a thermos of tea/coffee/hot ribena! You can see the recommended kit list here. Walking poles are recommended.

I'm coming from further afield, where can I stay nearby?

This is up to you depending on your budget. There are hotels, hostels and B&Bs in Crianlarich. A few miles further north is Tyndrum which also boasts a range of accommodation.

What's not included?

Accommodation (if applicable), Food, Personal Insurance, Personal equipment, Transport. If we need full winter tools (ski goggles, B2 mountaineering boots, ice axe and crampons you can hire these from Braemar Mountain Sports. It is your responsibility to ensure you have all the necessary equipment.

How much is the trip and how do I book?

The trip costs £295 per person with discounts for bulk purchases. If you only wish to join us for particular Munros on a day you have this option too and it costs £110 per person with discounts for bulk booking. To book please see below. Please ensure you have read the Terms and Conditions.

What are the Terms & Conditions?

Please see the Terms and Conditions section by clicking the link. You can also see the Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.

I've got some more general questions...

Please see the General FAQ section by clicking the link here. If you've still got questions then please get in touch!

How do I get there?

Crianlarich is accessible by road or train. It is north of Glasgow on the A82 and west of Callander/Perth/Stirling on the A85. There is a good rail link (including the sleeper from Euston) with a station at Crianlarich
