The Fisherfield Wilderness Treks

Backpacking Trek into 'The Great Wilderness'

Saturday 1st - Monday 3rd May 2021

ABOUT THE TRIP

The Fisherfield Forest contains perhaps the remotest Munros in Scotland. They can be done as separate but very long day walks. But the best way to explore them is backpacking in for a few days. One of the famous 6 Munros has been demoted from Munro status to a Corbett but is a majestic hill. Add potentially difficult river crossings, there's no wonder the view from A'Mhaigdean is considered the best in Britain - given the effort to get there!

Munros:

Sgurr Ban (989m / 3,245ft)

Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair (1,019m / 3,343ft)

Beinn Tarsuinn (937m / 3,074ft)

A’Mhaighdean (967m / 3,173ft)

Ruadh Stac Mor (918m / 3,012ft)

Corbett: Beinn a’ Chlaidheimh (913.96m / 2,999ft)

Meeting Point:

09:00am Corrie Halley Park

To view the start point on Google Maps, please click here. This will open in a separate tab.

If the rivers are impassable, we'll go in from Poolewe which is a much longer walk in and we'll not be able to set up a campsite (in other words - we have to carry everything).

DifficultyThe approximate total distance & ascent is 45.5km / 28.2 miles distance and 2,955m / 9,695ft ascent. There are some good tracks as well as some pathless sections with short scrambling sections. We may be carrying our camping equipment for two nights and three days walking. It is always hoped that we can get a spot to set up camp and have lighter packs for the three days but this is not always possible due to the infamous river crossings (two of them on the way in and out again plus the worst bog in Scotland. These trips are always an epic - it's not The Great Wilderness for nothing!

Cost: The three days guiding costs £295 per person (if booking for one person), £265.50 each if booking 2-3 places or £250.75 each if booking 4-6 places. 16-18 year old's are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. You will need to provide your own transport and accommodation.

Numbers: I can take a maximum of 6 and a minimum of 2 in order to run the events. If there are fewer than the minimum numbers booked you'll get a full refund. If you want to book for more than 6 please get in touch.

Here are some pictures from past events to inspire you!

Guided Trips - Frequently asked questions

Is this suitable for me?

You will need to be fit and have some walking experience. This is a very remote setting and challenging despite the paths. We'll be carrying full expedition packs and there are river crossings and some short steep scrambles. A head for heights is essential. I will always try and accommodate everyone but if unsure please drop me an email.

What do I need to bring?

You will need all of the essential kit plus the wilderness extras. You can see the recommended kit list here. I can hire out tents, camping equipment etc and details are in the General FAQs.

I'm coming from further afield, where can I stay nearby?

This is up to you depending on your budget. Dundonnell and Ullapool are the main centres nearby. Along the coast toward Poolewe there are other B&Bs and hotels. There is also the Aultguish Inn inbetween Ullapool and Inverness. This is area is remote and there will be distances to travel wherever you stay!

What's not included?

Accommodation (if applicable), Food, Personal Insurance, Personal equipment, Transport

How much is the trip and how do I book?

The trip costs £295 per person. To book please see below. Please ensure you have read the Terms and Conditions.

What are the Terms & Conditions?

Please see the Terms and Conditions section by clicking the link. You can also see the Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.

I've got some more general questions...

Please see the General FAQ section by clicking the link here. If you've still got questions then please get in touch!

How do I get there?

There is very limited transport. The Citilink buses travel from Inverness to Ullapool and you can get as far as Garve by train. After that you would need to speak to me about a lift. Alternatively it may be possible for someone else coming to arrange to pick you up en route. If you are willing to offer a lift please let me know.

TO BOOK

If you want to chat to me about the adventure then please feel free to do so - email is a good start as I'm often out and about with limited phone reception.
If you don't like the idea of the online booking or would prefer to pay a 10% deposit for now, that's fine as I can simply raise an invoice. Please note that this has an additional £5 non-refundable administration fee.
Simply click 'Book Now' and follow the instructions. You'll get an automated confirmation reply but I'll follow that up when I get back to civilisation to say thanks and with more detail about the trip.
Please ensure you've read the Terms and Conditions and you are aware of what you need to bring by downloading the gear list.
A quirk of the website hosting system means there are a range of ticket options (apologies about that). Please check the number you are booking for on the ticket options and ensure you request that number of tickets...
Any problems then please get in touch
