Magical Moonlight Coastal Walk

Saturday 8th October, 6.45pm

About the event:

Once famed for smuggling, Robin Hood's Bay is an atmospheric old fishing village. Steeped in history, the winding streets and picture-postcard cottages tumble down to an expansive coastline ideal for stargazing.

Walking by the light of the full moon here is totally magical. On clear nights, you'll still see huge star-filled skies out to sea. But this event is so much more than a night walk.

We'll travel along an atmospheric disused railway track to begin with through woodland with hints of views out to sea. On this section, we'll introduce some mindfulness to 'fine tune' your senses to everything around you.

We'll intersperse this with some celestial and deep history observations about what you are looking at and walking on. The North York Moors really is Jurassic Park - having been almost entirely laid down during the Jurassic. we'll be walking on the boundary between the Triassic and Jurassic at the end.

This event is co-hosted by Alison from Adventures for the Soul. You can also read more about Alison here. This was so popular when we ran it in January 2022 we just had to run it again. It was utterly magical walking by the light of the full moon on this stretch of the coast. Whether we see the stars or not, walking at night has many benefits and is an incredibly powerful way of reconnecting you to nature. Obviously we cannot guarantee clear skies or the weather!

We'll aim to finish at the pub opposite the car park where we can have a warm hot chocolate!

And your safety and enjoyment is of utmost importance to us. In extreme weather conditions, we reserve the right to change the route, postpone or cancel the event.

Meeting Point:

We meet at Robin Hood's Bay Car Park at the top of the medieval lane leading down to the fishing village. To see the start point in Google Maps, please click on the link which will open in a new tab.

Although we'll be mainly on footpaths, there are steep hills, steps, a stile, rough ground and lots of mud on these routes too. Mud is unavoidable at this time of the year I'm afraid, but we are in a natural environment! The route is roughly 9km (5.6miles) long with 170m ascent (558ft) and we'll be out for about 3 hours (finishing around 9.45pm). For your comfort, a good level of fitness will be needed for this activity.

The cost for this evening experience is £49 per person

We can take a maximum of 12 and a minimum of 4 for the event to run.

Please see the recommended kit list for All Activities here. Given the time of year and the fact we'll be on the coast at night, extra layers is vital as is a fully charged headtorch and spare, or headtorch with new batteries and spares in case!
