About the event:

Night Walking

Come for a dark skies walk! On this evening, we'll be doing the classic Dales circuit of Janet's Foss waterfall, Gordale Scar and the epic Malham Cove - at night. Although a familiar and popular place during the day, it will appear very different at night. Walking when dark can be exciting and rewarding, leaving you feeling utterly buzzing and refreshed.

The location is perfect for a spot of stargazing, moon bathing - or just heading out on a dark sky walk. The last few times we've run this event it's been cloudy, but this is such a magical place to walk at night participants were still 'WOW'ed by the experience. We've had such good feedback we put on extra events last winter!

Where the Event Takes Place

The small village of Malham is a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Not far from the larger town of Skipton with good rail links to Leeds it is also served by road (though it is a winding narrow road in places!).

It also boasts three stunning geological features - Janet's Foss waterfall, Gordale Scar and Malham Cove itself. We'll be aiming to visit all three.

The Yorkshire Dales is limestone country. The geography of the area has been dictated to by the geology. One of the most noticible aspects of the Dales is that the hills appear to be made up of a series of large steps - indeed, they are. This is the Yordale deposits and there are in fact 9 of them.

Limestone is also of marine life origin and reminds us of that when it's wet as it gets slippery! It also gives the Dales an enormous number of caves and caverns to explore!

Reconnecting with the Planet and Universe

But this isn't any old night walk. If we have clear skies we'll talk about the stars, as well as deep time and the landscape we're walking through. And we'll teach you how to ‘fine tune’ your senses through a little mindfulness activity so you'll get even more out of the experience too. You'll walk through the the landscape connecting with its deep history through time.

Alison from Adventures for the Soul will weave in a sensory walk that is good for calming the mind and bringing your attention back to the present moment. It's brilliant for parking your troubles for a few hours and letting go of that 'to do' list.

Meanwhile, Fabian will drop in a little celestial information here and there so you'll learn a thing or two as well.

The result? Your WOW-factor will be ramped up. And those worries you had earlier, may have disappeared.
