Summer Solstice Sunrise from Scafell Pike

Monday 20th - Tuesday 21st June 2022

About the event:

Come and see the sunrise from the summit of Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain, in the Lake District on the Summer Solstice!

Experience a deep reverence to our natural world as our ancestors did. Understand more about our natural home with a journey through time. Feel exercised and reflective in equal measures, while increasing your feel-good factor.

Why choose this?

Walking at night - regardless of whether you see the stars or not - is an incredibly powerful way of reconnecting you to nature. But throw in viewing incredible vistas from England’s highest mountain on the eve of this ancient festival, and you’re likely to experience a profound sense of awe.

As we gradually amble up, Fabian will talk about deep time and our place in the Universe. Alison from Adventures for the Soul will bring in elements of mindfulness and mindful night walking to open our senses. When the sunrise happens – whether it’s cloudy or not – it’ll take your breath away.

You’ll head down again in the early dawn feeling tired but buzzing from the experience you’ve just had. After all, there’s nothing quite like viewing the Summer Solstice sunrise like this to make you feel alive and at one with the universe.

This event is co-hosted by Alison from Adventures for the Soul and we collaborate on dark skies and mindfulness events primarily on the North York Moors National Park. Fabian has guided many Solstice walks up other mountains and regularly guides on Scafell Pike but this is our first trip to the Lakes bringing these elements together!

Walk details

At 978m (3,208ft) above sea level, Scafell Pike is England's highest mountain in the heart of the Lake District National Park. We’ll be meeting in Wasdale at around Midnight at the end of Monday 20th June and taking a quieter route up to the summit of Scafell Pike away from the main track (though we do re-join it near the top).

Meeting Point:

11:50pm (23:50) on Monday 20th June at the Wasdale Head car park (this is NOT the National Trust car park!).

To view the start point on Google Maps, please click here. This will open in a separate tab.

There are good tracks throughout thought the summit of Scafell Pike is a rocky boulderfield and often extremely busy (even at night on occasions like this). The main route is 10.5km (6.5 miles) with just over 1,000m (3,281ft) ascent. However, we will taking it gently building in mindfulness.

The event costs £69 per person.

We can take a maximum of 12 and a minimum of 4 in order to run the events. If there are fewer than the minimum numbers booked you'll get a full refund. Under 18s are welcome so long as they are accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This won’t be suitable for very young children. However brilliant dogs are, they can be a distraction on an event such as this so please leave them at home ☹

Please see the All Activities section of the Kit List. Just to stress, even in mid summer, warm layers will be essential at the summit as well as throughout as we'll be pausing to connect with the universe. Headtorches are essential - sither fully charged with a spare or a headtorch with new batteries plus spare batteries.
