White Horse of Kilburn Night Awe-Walk & Stargazing

Friday 29th November 1900-2100

About the event:

Where is the Evening?

The evening takes place around the White Horse of Kilburn. Located on the south-western edge of the North York Moors National Park, the White Horse can be seen from miles around - on the east coast mainline train and even as far as from York. Surrounded by ancient woodlands and with fantastic viewing opportunities at the top, its a great spot to do this event. The top plateau once housed the largest Iron Age fort in Europe.

It can be easily reached from Thirsk, York, Harrogate, Northallerton.

About the Evening

Come and embrace the darkness...

From this location, the skies are simply huge. Looking down below you you'll see the huge flat plains revealing twinkling lights of nearby villages.  Looking up, view constellations, planets and if we are lucky - shooting stars on clear nights. During a full moon, be prepared for a totally magical experience.

To get there, you'll weave your way through primeval, mystical woodland. Skirt the edge of an ancient geological limestone scar and then hop out at the top where one of the largest Iron Age hill forts in Europe was situated.

During this experience, you'll learn more about the universe, deep time, planet earth and we'll point out a few constellations and planets too. While meandering, you'll find out about a secret, sensory technique that'll enable you to experience so much more - and leave you feeling amazing.

Please note, we cannot guarantee clear skies - BUT this is still an atmospheric and amazing 'pick-me-up' that will leave you feeling rejuvenated. And very much alive.

We can run these evenings for bespoke groups. If you are interested in this then please contact both myself and Alison to discuss dates.

Meeting Point:

We meet at the Kilburn Forest Car Park. Be warned the road is steep and winds it's way up to the plateau! It can be an experience in itself.

Difficulty:

Although the walk is only (around) 4 miles long and mainly on footpaths, there are sections of mud and very rough ground in places. Please note, there are steep hills - including one section that is particularly long and steep heading up to the plateau, plus lots of steep, uneven steps back down to the car park.

Prerequisites:

For your comfort, a good level of fitness will be needed for this activity including experience of walking in muddy environments.

Cost:

The evening experience costs £33 per person

Numbers:

We can take a maximum of 12

Equipment:

Please see the All Activities section of the kit list here. Walking poles are recommended for those who may find walking at night.
