Really exciting news.
AFS Mountaineering is expanding in a small way - even during these difficult times :-D
Alex Fradley and Rob Webster are going to be coming in to help run some bigger events and do some specialist guiding in their respective patches of the Yorkshire Dales and Lakes respectively.
Alex has a huge passion for outdoor activities including; hiking, scrambling, climbing, mountain biking and swimming but loves any activity that includes exploration - even underground.
He is also a Geography teacher who loves furthering his understanding of landscape processes, with a particular interest in rivers and glaciers. He’s led overseas expeditions to Nepal and Thailand and is the head of the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme at his school. With Alex, we’re looking to develop some days out exploring a journey through time – more details coming up!
I’ll be joined by Alex for our New Year’s eve celebrations on Skiddaw so come along and meet him!
Rob has been passionate about the great outdoors for as long as he can remember. He was first introduced to multi-day hiking and camping in the scouts and then mountain climbing in the mountaineering society at university.
Since then he has travelled extensively abroad and has been lucky enough to experience multi-day hikes in two of his favourite destinations; the stunning Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru and Annapurna in Nepal.
Rob is a natural mountain athlete and enjoys testing his mental and physical limits through endurance events and has completed several ultra-marathons, cycled the length of Britain, swam the length of Coniston water and aims to complete his first ironman triathlon in 2021.
He has lived in the Lake District since 2017 and has found that being immersed in nature is the best antidote to life's many stresses. He spends a lot of time fell-running, hiking, road cycling, lake swimming and exploring new routes.
Rob will be developing some guided treks in the Lakes that will visit some hidden gems as well as some more interesting routes up popular hills. He is keen on developing the trail running aspect too.
Both Alex and Rob hold the Summer Mountain Leader Award and are full members of Mountain Training Association.
