Robin Hoods Bay Sensory Stargazing & Night Walk Experience

Saturday 29th March 2025 - 1930-2230

About the event:

Where is the Event?

Once famed for smuggling, Robin Hood's Bay is an atmospheric old fishing village. Steeped in history, the winding streets and picture-postcard cottages tumble down to an expansive coastline ideal for stargazing. We'll take the old railway line - now called the Cinder Track - up towards Ravenscar before descending down towards the beach and back to Robin Hood's Bay.

We get folks coming from further afield for these evenings who extend their stay. Take a look at these websites for some accommodation options: Baytown Holiday CottagesRobin Hood's Bay Tourism AssociationYHA Boggle Hole, Newlands Farm Cottages or North York Moors National Park website

Robin Hoods Bay now is famous for its beaches and being the end of the Coast to Coast hiking route which starts from St Bees in the Lake District and traverses across northern England through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks.

About the evening

When the skies are clear and it's close to a new moon, what you'll see here will take your breath away. Standing on the coastline looking out to sea, you'll be greeted by an inky darkness and a huge star-filled sky - if clear.

Meanwhile you'll hear the rhythmical sound of waves on the shore, smell salty sea air and feel the breeze against your skin. It's refreshing, rejuvenating and massively up-lifting.

Although we can't guarantee clear skies, you'll still feel the benefits of embracing the dark and heading outdoors. Night walking is a wonderful mood booster and makes you feel exhilarated.

This is because your primary sense - sight - takes a back seat while all your other senses become alive. Weave in a secret formula along the way, and your ability to feel awe increases. An emotion now considered more important than happiness.

But that's not all! You'll find out a little more about planet earth, stars and planets and discover you're actually looking back in time. You'll also learn about the geology of this coastline too, as the area is steeped in ancient rocks and fossils, akin to the dinosaur coast.

Certainly, you'll leave feeling invigorated - and very much alive! These evenings are not just a night walk. These are a full experience like you've never had before (unless you've already been on one of our evenings!)

PLEASE NOTE - We can run these evenings for bespoke groups. If you are interested in this then please contact both myself and Alison to discuss dates.

Meeting Point:

We meet outside the Victoria Hotel at 1945 (7.45pm) ready to go. We'll have a brief introduction before setting out.

Parking is free and just opposite at the Robin Hoods Bay Top Bank Car Park. If this is full, you can park at the Station Car Park (there isn't a station there any more - we'll be walking along the old railway line for a time) which is a 5 min walk from the meeting place.
